Original painting on wood

Modern Day Madonna
is an interpretation of the modern mother and son image. The eyes of each painting depict the love and the
emotions of the maternal family. The series originally consist of eight painting using the medium of ink, water-soluble oils and epoxy resin.
One of the Madonna’s was juried into an exhibit and shown at the Washington County Museum of Fine Art.

Inculturation refers to the adaption of behaviors, thoughts or views about things from one culture into another. This method is mainly
discussed in the context of the Christian mission. The title "Inculturated Madonna" alludes to the Christian motif of the Virgin Mary `s.
One of the modes of representation of Western European culture is the representation of Mary with the child, whereat the child clings
to the mother's face.

Cheryl Edwards adapted the Christian motif and transported it in this day and age. She presents an "Inculturated Madonna"
as a blue-eyed black woman with two little children.
